Mr..Ojeifo Hospital Secretary; Uromi General Hospital
My trip to Nigeria in December 2006 was a planned annual ritual that I had decided to undertake. The highlight of my
trip, however, was my visit to the Uromi General Hospital..
At the Hospital, I was given a tour of the Maternity Ward by the Hospital Secretary, Mr. Ojeifo and Dr. Udegbe, the
contractor whom UCA, USA contracted to renovate the ward. It was a historic visit. The hospital staffs were very ecstatic
to see one of the members of the hospital benefactors. A golden plaque with our names enshrined on it was pointed out
to me. The plaque was located on the outside wall of the ward for the whole world to see. The hospital staff members
were delighted to be able to attach my name (from the plaque) to my face. I was moved. I thanked them for the
opportunity given to UCA to be able to assist in the reconstruction of the maternity ward.
The hospital secretary also extended his thanks on behalf of the hospital to the Uromi Community Association for their
generosity and kindness. He showed me the bags of blankets and bed sheets bought with our contribution. He showed
me the giant ‘industrial fans, the reconstructed beds and window nets to keep out mosquitoes.. The ceiling of the long
maternity wards were done over and painted. The walls were plastered and freshly painted. The waiting Area had about
five long benches that were constructed by us and with our organization’s named inscribed on them.
Gentlemen, thank you for a job well done. Special thanks to our honorable President for his leadership and
steadfastness. He manifested our dreams and wishes: to give ‘back’ to our dear Uromi.
Our effort is highly applauded and appreciated but we must not stop there. We must redouble our philanthropic effort to
keep helping the neediest amongst us.
I am urging that the UCA members who are yet to contribute to the development of the Maternity ward should please do
so. We must contribute to build more benches, buy some medical equipments and a modern birthing or labor bed. The
labor bed at the hospital is a ONE WOODEN PLATFORM.
Thank you for your good deeds. A new born and its mother had a restful night today at the Uromi General Hospital
because of you
